Elance and oDesk, two of the largest online marketplaces for freelancers, has announced their intention to merge into one big online employment hub.
One giant freelancer company
The agreement is expected to close within the next four months, pending regulatory approval.
The newly joint entity will boast a global community of over 8 million freelancers and 2 million businesses that reaches more than 180 countries.
The two crowd sourcing giants will continue to operate independently as they always have under their separate brands.
“This merger is a landmark in the evolution of work,” oDesk chief executive Gary Swart said in a press statement. “With 2.7 billion people now connected online, people are hungry for more freedom to work flexibly and for teams to come together more easily.”
Sharing the same vision
Elance and oDesk hope that joining forces will allow users of both platforms to do just that but more efficiently.
They plan to scale more quickly, deliver faster, smarter results to clients, and provide funds into technology.
